Reviews– The Canon Pixma iX6820 Inkjet Printer Wireless offers nearly the same set of features as the Canon Pixma iX6520 Inkjet Business. Among the few differences is speed a little faster, a little lower quality for text, and a little better quality for photos. The most important update, however, is the addition of support both wired and wireless networks. If you are looking for an inkjet printer for paper Tabloid- or even larger size, which makes the Pixma iX6820 better fit to share in the micro office, although its paper handling limits that follow.

There are not many single-function printers that are affordable enough for even a home office and is capable of printing on paper larger than legal size and letter. Direct competition to the Pixma iX6820 includes the Editors’ Choice Epson WorkForce WF-7010 and not much else. That said, there are also some less directly comparable older models such as large format printer HP Officejet 7000, which are no longer manufactured but can still be found for sale on a few websites.

One advantage that the iX6820 has on the Epson WF-7010 is its support Wi-Fi. It also offers some capacity mobile printing, including printing through the cloud, AirPrint support, and support for printing of Android and iOS phones and tablets via Wi-Fi using free applications from Canon. Note that for any of these functions of mobile printing to work, you have to connect the printer directly to a network.

Paper Handling is not a strong point. The good news is that you can print on both tabloid and super tabloid paper size, size up to 13 by 19 inches. Unfortunately, the printer has one paper tray, which means that you can not hold both letter and large paper size loaded at the same time. Also missing is a more duplex (for two-sided printing), as well as an option.

Having a single tray makes the Pixma iX6820 more suitable as a second printer to supplement a letter-size printer you have. In addition, the tray has just 150 sheets, which would be a bit poor if your only printer. As a printer for large complementary output, however, it should not be a problem. As a point of comparison, the Epson WF-7010 offers two 250-sheet trays and duplex printing and can handle paper as large as 13 by 44 inches.

At 6.3 by 23 by 12.3 inches (HWD), the Pixma iX6820 is a bit larger than most inkjet printers. However, assuming you have space for it, the installation is pretty standard. I found a minor problem with a security feature of Windows Vista Setup that maintains the run. In this paper, Canon still investigating the issue, but the company was able to come up with a simple way to install the driver anyway. If you encounter the same problem with the installation, you should be able to get the solution by calling Support Canon.

Beyond that, I found myself in an unusual and potentially frustrating topic. The printer does not offer a menu of LCD-only buttons and status lights. If you need to change your network connection settings by default (which is set for the printer to connect via Wi-Fi) to let you connect using the Ethernet port instead, you have to hold down a button and count flashes the status light.

Unfortunately, Canon does not put this information in the quick start, not a magic decoder ring is sent to the printer. A company representative said that the information displayed on the screen during a normal installation, but if you lose, or, as in my case, can not run the installation program, you will be left without a clue on how to remove the cable connection network. Once you know the trick, however, switching between settings with cable and Wi-Fi is easy. A Canon representative said the company is investigating options to address this issue.
